Open Security (OpenSEC) was officially formed in 2013 as an independent working group of Open Source for America (OSFA). The relationship is beneficial to both organizations. OSFA provides a greater awareness and outreach across the federal government, while OpenSEC provides the cyber domain an Open Source rally point. The two organizations work closely together and several members of the OpenSEC Steering Committee also serve on various committees and in leadership roles for OSFA
